Why We Need Duvet Covers

It seems like no matter where you go in the world every bedroom will have the same basic ensemble. Which is a mattress, two pillows, pillow causes, sheets, and of course a comforter. This is true in the United States, Europe, India, and even Japan where it is custom to sleep on the floor. So, if duvet cover sets are not found in the average home why is it that we need them.

Before we get to why we need duvet covers we must first understand what they are.”Duvet” is the French word meaning a bag filled with down, wool, cotton, or some other natural material. We have duvets in America but we call them comforters. And that is why they are also referred to as comforter covers. Both phrases have the same meaning and accomplish the same goal of protecting your comforter from harm.

Duvet covers work allot like pillow cases where as your pillow case goes over your pillow to protect it from getting dirty, ripped, torn or otherwise damaged your duvet goes over your comforter to accomplish the same goal.

Cleaning a comforter, if you ever tried takes a great deal of effort and since comforters are filled with down, cotton or other material it is difficult to determine exactly how clean it is below the surface of the fabric. That is why every home needs duvets. Because they are easier to clean than comforters. It is said that the average American spends 60% of their lives in their beds so to properly maintain a clean environment would require the bedding to be washed between two to three times a week but, although most of the bedding is washed without a problem most people only wash their comforters maybe once every two weeks because they fear that it may be damaged during the wash and five times out of ten they are right. But, we can prevent this and protect ourselves from future skin diseases and rashes if we use comforter covers and that is why we need them in every bedroom.

I need help finding a product? Comforter cover?

Where can I find a cover to go over your comforter? I don’t know the name, all I know is that it’s a cover….like a pillow case only different and it’s made to go over an entire comforter lol.
No, a duvet cover is just a comforter…it’s not what I’m looking for.
When I google “Duvet Cover”, all I see are pictures of full comforters…not covers, ahh.

How often do I need to wash a duvet cover?

I’ve only ever had comforters before and I didn’t wash those too often due to inconvenience. How often should I or can I wash a duvet cover?
The tag tells me how to wash it (gentle, warm) but not when. I wasn’t sure whether to treat it like sheets or like a comforter in terms of frequency. Thanks for the answers!
